E.K.M. 2014

Motorcycle jackets, wood, cardboard

A soft three-dimensional Kaleidoscope Monument composed of hundreds of pristine discarded motorcycle jackets from the late 1980’s. The jackets were initially intended as a successful PR strategy of a motorcycle company located on the outskirts of Athens (Greece). Unfortunately, the company failed to flourish and the jackets remained for years unused and stored in an abandoned warehouse.

Inspired by the jackets’ vibrant colours and directed by their preexisting geometrical motifs: an intricate pattern is created by the colour-coordination of the extensively knotted, stretched, and folded jackets. The jackets, whether balanced or strapped together at specific points, form an intertwined composition determined by hoodies, zippers, ties and buckles.

A monument that employs reflection, repetition and embraces the anew.
